ABOUT ME I strive to live in the moment, and am content with both sophisticated and simple pleasures. Well read and well traveled, I'm also a family man who enjoys being a half-time dad to my 13 yo daughter and 15 yo son. Life is good, but could be so much better if shared. I’d characterize myself as well-rounded, and at this stage in life that means I’ve got rough edges smoothed, ego (mostly) tamed, interests varied, expectations minimized, and passions directed. I love cooking, reading, writing, movies, plays, galleries, museums, listening to all types of music, and so much more. Although I grew up competing in many sports, I’m not loyal to any one sport or team. So, short of a great college football match-up, a particular Olympic event, or some game/match/meet a friend is really passionate about, viewing sports is not a priority for me. I live near the beach and enjoy walking there year-round, but prefer going in the water during warm weather. I don’t drink – haven’t for more than 30 years – and have never regretted that decision. I’m not a recovering alcoholic or addict, just someone who decided to not partake. I’m OK if my partner drinks, as long as it’s not habitual. Even with a straight edge, I’m a keen conversationalist, an attentive listener, and I mingle well in a party or group setting. I love to laugh and joke and play with words, and can find common ground with most people. Solitude and silence have appeal as well (Earlier this week I learned that I’m an “Ambivert”… look it up), so I enjoy sharing time with someone who can “be on” and “just be”, depending on the circumstances and setting. We all need to give and receive gifts of time and touch, service and appreciation, to remain whole and healthy humans. Hopefully, this site will help us all find someone we connect with on multiple levels, and with whom we can freely and safely share those gifts. ABOUT YOU Since we’re both on this site, by definition we are resilient and resourceful people who have re-cast our confidence in the wake of hardship. Even with a common experience as a starting point, though, we are still seeking an elusive combination of connection and compatibility and those undefined elements of “chemistry” that might transform two “I’s” into a “We”. Discovering that magical combination is as improbable as ever, but it’s refreshing for once to be in a setting where our common curse is actually a blessing. I admire women who, like me, are comfortable leading or following, can navigate with a little planning and a lot of intuition, and communicate in ways that get their needs met. Of course, the elements of physical attraction and emotional availability, heartfelt connection and intellectual compatibility, are also essential factors inherent in a true friend and partner. But just as important is finding someone who doesn’t mind -- gently, or bluntly at times -- pointing out their loved one's flaws or what’s lurking in his/her blind spots. That kind of service/inclination is priceless, especially if reciprocated. I don't even pretend to know what unique blend of qualities and capabilities will lead to a successful outcome in our proverbial chemistry experiment. What's next has a way of magically materializing, though, so I figure it's our job to show up and pay attention throughout the process. What's your approach?
