Born and raised in Seattle, I've migrated south to Olympia. I love the water and the walking trails, our cities filled with trees and parks with the mountains and the ocean never far away, the organic, local, and sustainable foods, environmental values and, well, just the interesting, eclectic, and dedicated people that live here. I have spent my career as an environmental geochemist working on cleaning up the bays, rivers, and lakes of this region, from Alaska to California.
I find myself wanting to spend more of my time in the moment, whether it's the sunlight in the trees or a night out with a good friend, a passionate kiss or the sight of Mt. Rainier rising over the city. I am dedicated to my work, but also to my play. We only get one life and each day is valuable.
When it comes to relationships, I believe in communication, giving, and creativity. Each person is who they are - and loving them as they are is the key to making it work. Being loved that way is the essence of joy. I am not into drama or conflict, but am capable of working through difficult emotional challenges. Yeah, I'm a fiery redhead, but I save it for... well, if you're lucky, you'll find out ;)
In a friend or a lover I value intelligence, passion, into nature and science, loves to travel, enjoys the arts, and looks forward to experiencing world cultures and cuisines. Looking for someone who's independent, happy, and secure in his life, but also adventurous and able to feel a deep commitment - to his partner, yes, but also to friends, to his pursuits, to ideas and ideals. Fitness is important - though I'm not a super-athlete, I stay healthy, active, and HWP. I'd like to share that with a partner - hiking, kayaking, yoga, bicycling.
I've been divorced for a number of years (8) after being married for a long time (17). I've had a few serious relationships in between, and have been around this block enough to know that what you envision as your ideal partner may be nothing like who he is when he actually appears :) So if you like what you see, please do write. I will write back. I know Olympia isn't the most convenient place for many on here, but I'm happy to consider Seattle to Portland for the right person. I can do my work almost anywhere, so am not tied down to a normal schedule.
I seem to have travel in my blood, and in the last few years I've been to Panama, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, and New Zealand, and am busy planning my next trip. Nature is my second passion - birds, trees, frogs, dragonflies, the whole ecology of a place. Yep, I'm one of those crazy birders that keeps a list :) I'm a serious foodie that loves to cook, be cooked for, dine out, and learn about world cuisines. Food can be sensual, fascinating, and healthy (maybe on different days). I'm always experimenting on my friends, maybe you'll be one of them?
I also enjoy devouring books (usually a couple at once), movies, plays, concerts, coffee bars, listening to the blues, hiking, kayaking, board games, good conversations with interesting people (especially about science). Interested in organic/local food and sustainability, microlending, green energy.
