Been floating down this river for quite some time. Watching the shore go by...couples strolling hand in hand. I remember that. Seems like so long ago. Bobbing around, caught in and eddy every now and then. Paddling through the rapids looking for a safe harbor. Getting drenched from an occasional black cloud over head. They all pass, eventually.
Coming on to shore.....looking down at my reflection. I've weathered. Gone grey. And are those ripples in the water? No. They are wrinkles on my face. Oh well, nothing I can do about that. Gonna find someplace with some music. Want to dance to ZZ Top or Robert Palmer again. Maybe even sing along.

I'm an artist. The old fashioned kind. I paint, and when the neighbors are gone hammer on a sculpture or two. It's what I have always done. Can't remember never wanting my hands to create something. It is a place that I never want to leave.

I live alone. It's not sad or dark. There is always a light I bring home.

I often wonder if I will ever hear another voice when I open the door,

I imagine she would be happy to see me. Maybe there would be a pot on and we'd have a cup of tea. She'd put her book down, take the cat off her lap, raise from her chair and smile, asking me to come....sit at the table, and let's talk about our day.

And...I am so happy to do that.
